Easily Performing Boat Maintenance with Outboard Oil

Domo-Online 3-16-2015 Pic 4Boating is something that I very much enjoy. I love being able to take my family out on the boat; it’s a great way to bond and spend time together. Sometimes we’ll go fishing and other times we’ll just take the boat around for a while at higher speeds, because it can be pretty exhilarating to do that.

Of course, if you’re going to be a boat owner, you have to put the effort in that’s necessary for keeping your boat maintained properly. In my case, this means that I need to have a stock of outboard oil. I keep a good supply of it in storage with my boat, so that it’s easy for me to perform maintenance on the boat.

Doing Research to Determine the Best Outboard Motor Oil

Domo-Online 2-16-2015 Pic 5Determining the best of the best is something that’s always been important to me. If I can afford something better than what I already have, I see no reason why I shouldn’t upgrade to having the best of the best. However, what’s referred to as ‘the best’ can be subjective in some cases, so this can be a bit of a challenge.

When I bought a boat (the best one that I could feasibly acquire), I also wanted to make sure that I had the best materials for it. This meant I wanted to find the best outboard motor oil for my boat. I made sure to do some research online to figure out which would be the best and made sure to purchase it from there.

Regular Maintenance via Outboard Motor Oil

Domo-Online 1-26-2015 Pic 1With any vehicle, being able to perform maintenance on it is really important. Without proper maintenance, that vehicle’s going to quickly turn into a money sink and you’re going to wonder why you’re spending so much money on repairs for something that was already quite expensive in the first place.

Avoiding serious repairs is much easier if you make the effort to work on maintenance for your vehicle whenever it should be done. That’s the reason that I keep a decent stock of outboard motor oil, so I can ensure that I’m regularly performing maintenance on my boat whenever it may need it.

Mixing in Outboard Oil with the Fuel

Domo-Online 1-19-2015 Pic 3Your boat’s maintenance is something that you should definitely think about if you own a boat. Without regular maintenance, just like any vehicle, you’re going to start running into problems with the boat. Luckily, certain aspects of your boat’s maintenance can be quite easy, especially when it comes to the oil.

With outboard oil, it’s not difficult at all to perform maintenance for your boat, since it all comes down to mixing the oil in with the fuel for the boat. It’s good that this level of maintenance is so simplistic, compared to how difficult other aspects of maintenance can be for certain vehicles.

My Dad’s Doomsday Prepping with Bulk Outboard Motor Oil

domo-online blog 5 11-24-14My dad is an interesting character. He once built a bunker, above ground, forgot that it was supposed to be buried, then proceeded to just cover it with a giant mound of dirt. He buys bulk coffee with no filters, toothpaste but no toothbrushes, and enough toilet paper to supply half of Rhode Island. He is serious about his prepping, but my dad is not one that thinks too far into his projects.

Lately, he has been buying bulk outboard motor oil and storing it in our boat shed. Because we live on Puget Sound, he believes the boat will be our main source of travel once the power goes out and roads get blocked. Let’s hope he remembers to stock up on fuel!  For all my dad’s imagination and prepping skills, he definitely needs to start planning a bit better!

Is it Better to Go Synthetic When Considering Your Boat Motor Oil?

domo-online blog 2 11-17-14There has been a debate for years whether synthetic is better or more efficient than regular oil in your boat engine. My father refuses to use synthetic at the moment, stating the old, ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,’ mentality. Now that I’m a grown woman with a boat of my own however, I’m considering using synthetic in my engine.

Doing my research on the best boat motor oil available, I found that using synthetic oil results in less engine wear over time, although this does come at a price. Synthetic is about twice as expensive, currently, than regular oil is. I decided that because I use my boat nearly every day for commuting, and I plan on keeping it for a long time, I’m going to switch to synthetic. Sorry Dad!

The Importance of Making Sure Your Outboard Oil is Full

Everglades and Turner RiverI had always wanted to take my boat down the alligator infested alleyways of the Florida Everglades and take a week off fishing in the sun with my buddies. For my thirty-second birthday, that’s exactly what I planned on giving myself as a present. Little did I know the adventure I was about to be in store for. And I use the word adventure, loosely.

On the second day out in the Everglades, with no other fishermen or people around to be found, we broke down. I found my outboard oil was almost completely depleted. I guess I had forgotten to check it, in my excitement to get out in the water. I learned a value lesson that trip. If you don’t want to be hospitalized for dehydration because your boat broke down in the Florida Everglades, always make sure your oil is full.

Which Oil is the Best Outboard Motor Oil Depends Entirely on Your Boat

domo online blog 1 11-03-14When you find yourself in the predicament of making sure that you are picking the best oil for your boat, there are many things that you must consider. Just buying high quality oil is not enough because not all oil is meant for every single type of engine. You have to look at the type of engine that it is meant to be used with and ensure it meets all of your engines guidelines.

Looking at the ratings on the oil can make it so that you are sure that this is actually quality oil rather than just oil for anything else. Picking an oil that matches the brand of engine that you will be running can also be a very good idea. Most manufacturers know what the best outboard motor oil for their engines is and will make sure that their oil meets engine standards.

Outboard Oil Specifically for My Boat

domo online blog 3 9-08-14When I first bought my boat, I knew that it was going to be very important for me to make sure that I knew a lot about its outboard motor. I made sure to read through the owner’s manual so that I could learn how to do some simple maintenance on my boat. I wanted to make sure that I could do any of the simple repairs and care for my motor so I wouldn’t ever have to take it to a shop.

In the manual, there was a lot of information about using the motor and making sure to put a specific type of outboard oil into it. When I first ran the outboard motor, I made sure that I was following all of the directions exactly. Eventually this became second nature to me. My boat has been running great with just the regular maintenance that it requires.
