Using Some 2 Cycle Mercury Oil in My Cousin’s Outboard Motor

domo online blog 2 8-18-14My cousin has had an outboard motor that has always run a little bit oddly. The motor doesn’t really work too well and has always had problems starting up. My cousin finally took it in to be fixed a couple of weeks ago. The person who worked on the motor suggested that now that it was fixed and running alright again, he should try to take better care of it.

My cousin decided that the best way to make sure that his outboard motor was well taken care of was to use high quality 2 cycle Mercury oil in the motor instead of using the cheaper oil that he had been using. He even found some places where he could buy it in bulk so that he could get the oil that he really needed at a cost that was actually a lot more affordable.

Helping with the Mercury Outboard Oil at the Marina

domo online blog 1 8-04-14Yesterday, I received a call from one of my friends asking for help with his boat. Since he only got the boat last year, I was sure that he was confused about some part of regular boating maintenance so I went to the Marina to help him out. I was thinking that he would need my help determining how to open some part of his outboard engine or something like that.

It turned out that the only problem was that he didn’t know what kind of outboard oil was the right kind for his boat. He was stuck in the marina store reading the labels of a bunch of different types of oil. I was able to show him the Mercury outboard oil that was right for his boat. I am fairly certain that I could have given him the same type of help over the phone.

High Performing Mercury Premium Plus

domo online blog 4 7-21-14Usually, I am a little bit wary when it comes to certain brands claiming to be better than other brands. For example, I used to watch the same gasoline truck go to gas stations across the street from each other, one claiming to sell a generic and the other a name brand. Whenever I choose a name brand, it is because I have seen a difference with my own eyes.

For example, I have seen how my friend’s boat runs when it has Mercury Premium Plus oil and how it runs with something more generic. The engine seems to run a lot better in rough conditions when he sticks to the name brand oil. Having seen this difference, I would definitely use the premium oil when I was running a boat that was like the one that my friend has.

Taking Some Mercury 2 Cycle Oil Out to the Lake with Me

domo online blog 3 7-21-14Most of the time, I prefer to prepare my boat for launch long before I get it to the edge of the water. This is mostly because the process of mixing oil and gasoline for my two cycle outboard motor is a process I’d rather do away from the water. I don’t want to be contaminating a lake that I am going to fish in if any of the oil or gasoline drips while I am getting my boat ready.

Last weekend, I ended up having to add the oil next to the lake because I had to pick up some extra Mercury 2 cycle oil on the way to the lake. I discovered that I didn’t have enough oil shortly before leaving the house and the only way to meet up with my friends on time, was to pick up the oil on the way. Luckily, I was able to be very careful and not spill a single drop of motor oil.

Getting More Mercury 2 Stroke Oil After a Long Boating Weekend

domo online blog 3 7-07-14Last weekend, my father spent a lot of time out in his small motor boat trolling around fishing. Since he was using his 2 stroke outboard motor, he ended up using the last of the 2 stroke oil that he had in his shed. When his boat became low on fuel, he took it back to the boat launch and loaded it up to go home. This was fine since it was starting to get late anyhow.

Since my father would like to take his boat out again soon. He has started to look for good deals on Mercury 2 stroke oil both locally and online. Even though he usually buys his oil at the same place each time, he still compares prices regularly because he doesn’t want to pay too much.

Sticking with Mercury Engine Oil to Power an Outboard Motor

domo online blog 2 6-30-14At the end of last season, my uncle determined that he was spending too much money on his boat and decided to write up a budget to try to contain his spending. He focused on cutting back on his regular maintenance cost and lowering the amount of time he took the boat out on the water so he wouldn’t waste as much gas. He limited himself to a certain number of trips for this summer.

Initially, he debated switching from Mercury engine oil to a generic brand so that he could cut the cost of putting oil in his boat. After doing some math and researching prices, he found that he could actually get Mercury oil cheaper in bulk so he wouldn’t have to switch to a generic. He decided that sticking with brand name outboard oil was probably important anyway.

Weekend Boating Powered by Mercury Optimax Oil

domo online blog 3 6-23-14One of my friends got a new boat a couple of weeks ago. Since then he has spent some time getting to know the mechanical workings of his outboard motor and taking some time prepare the boat for the water. He has tested the various components of the boat to ensure that everything is in good working order. Last weekend, he decided it was time to take it out.

He invited me to go along with him. After adding some Mercury Optimax oil to his outboard motor, we took it down to the dock to launch it. My friend had never launched a boat before, so it wasn’t easy going. I had to teach him how far to pull into the water and how to get the boat free from its trailer. After that, we went out on the water for a good day trip.

Preparing an Old Boat with Mercury Oil

domo online blog 2 6-16-14One of my friends has a boat that has sat in his yard for the last several boating seasons without being taken out. Damage to one of the outboard motors and lack of funds to fix it left the boat beached while money was raised several times over. This year, my friend finally has repaired the boat and is getting it ready to take out to a lake to test how well the fix worked.

Getting the boat ready for the lake started with a good washing to get rid of the pollen that had become stuck to the boat over the last several years. After that, my friend put some Mercury oil in the boat to make sure he kept his newly repaired motor well lubricated. The final test will be taking the boat out on the water this weekend and running the motor.

Comparing Prices for Mercury Outboard Oil

domo online blog 3 6-9-14One of my friends recently decided to start looking into using brand name oil. For years, he has stayed with generic boat motor oil, because he thought that the price made it worth it. However, over the last several years, he has had to spend quite a large amount of money on outboard engine repairs, which he blames on the inferior oil that he has always used.

He still wants to find the lowest price possible for better oil, since at heart he is a very cheap person. He has recently been comparing the price of Mercury outboard oil online and in stores. He thinks that the best way to get a great deal on this oil might be to buy it in large quantities from the internet, since his local boat shop seems to be overcharging for the oil.

Benefits of a Two Stroke Outboard and Mercury 2 Cycle Oil

domo-online blog 4 5-26-14Over my years of boating I have used two stroke engines and engines that required oil that cycled through the engine in its own separate system. I have learned that there are definite advantages and disadvantages to each type of oil cycling system. The main problem that I have found with a boat with an outboard that has a separate oil system is that oil changes can be a lot more difficult.

With two stroke outboard motors, I have found that one difficulty is having the Mercury 2 cycle oil that I need at the same time as I run out of gasoline. This can sometimes mean bringing the 2 cycle oil with you and mixing it in with the gasoline when you are actually at the marina. Forgetting your 2 stroke oil at home means that you might have to make a costly trip to the marina store.

Choosing the Mercury Premium Plus as His New Oil

One of my friends recently bought himself a new speedboat with some serious horsepower. In the past, he has always had a boat that had a typically puttering engine and having one with this much get up and go is kind of a shock to all of our systems. We’ve all been teasing him about his midlife crisis boat, because of course it is painted to look pretty flashy.
domo online blog 3 5-19-14In this boat, he chose Mercury Premium Plus oil because it is specifically for Mercury engines like his.

Finding Bulk Mercury Optimax Oil Somewhere Other than the Marina Store

domo online blog 2 5-12-14My father hates to buy anything from the marina store because he feels that he is usually being grossly overcharged for the convenience of having a place to get last minute items for his boat. He has taken to being overly prepared for any boating situation by checking everything on his boat before he even goes near the marina. He buys boat parts online so that he won’t be overcharged.

Before he takes his boat away on its trailer, he will check to make sure that it has the oil and gasoline that it will need for the trip. He keeps a selection of bulk Mercury Optimax oil in his garage so that it will always be available when he needs it. Once he is sure that the outboard engine has everything that it needs to stay running without a trip to the marina store, he is ready to go.
