The History of Yamaha

Yamaha is a bit of a bizarre corporation. They’re a multi-billion dollar company that is based in Japan and was established in 1887, exclusively creating pianos and reed organs. As the years went on, the company’s product lines expanded more and more and now Yamaha’s brand name is recognized as one of the best-known Japanese companies in the world.

Not only is Yamaha currently the largest manufacturer of musical instruments of all varieties at this point in time, but they also produce a large plethora of other products including motorcycle and boat products. I exclusively play on Yamaha musical keyboards, and oddly enough, I also only use Yamaha 2M oil for my boat. It’s very interesting to me to think that the same corporation makes my keyboards also makes the supplies I use for my boat.

Wives and Boats

My wife and I went through a little bit of a rough patch when I bought my boat. She thought that it was a waste of money and when the boat started to have problems, she seemed convinced that she was right. The problem was that I had bought a used boat and it hadn’t been inspected or maintained as well as advertised. This was something that could be fixed.

Eventually, I got the boat running. I think one of the issues my wife had was that I was taking my buddies out on the boat to drink and fish, rather than spending a day on the boat with her. So for the holidays, I took her out on the boat for the first time and she had a great time. She got me a bottle of Yamalube 2M, just to remind me she loves me.

Outboard Battery Requirements for Yamaha

Traditional speed boat engines use a battery to kick start the engine and power boat accessories. A Yamaha two stroke engine with a 50 or below horsepower uses a battery that contains 245 cold cranking amps at zero degrees Fahrenheit and 323 marine ranking amps at 32 degrees Fahrenheit.

A two stroke Yamaha engine between 60 and 150 horsepower and a 2.6 liter 150 to 2000 horsepower outboard engine requires a motor battery that has 380 cold cranking amps at zero degrees Fahrenheit. At 32 degrees Fahrenheit there should be 502 marine cranking amps with a reserve of 124 capacity minutes at 25 amps. While checking out the battery on a two stroke, be sure to also examine the oil levels and top up with Yamalube 2-m oil if necessary.

Great Gifts for Boaters This Holiday Season: Part 4

When the warmer months finally arrive it will be time to head out on the water. After having abstained for the entire winter I’ll be waiting anxiously to head out for the first time. And each time I head out I’ll probably stay out a little longer than usual. In fact, if you’re like most boaters I know, you won’t wait until it’s actually “warm.” It only has to be a little bit “warmer.” However, going out in the early months of the year can leave us facing extended periods of darkness and even less-than-ideal weather and visibility conditions.

If you plan on being out during the twilight hours, or even when it’s dark, then quality marine lighting is a true necessity. Whether it’s the early morning hours or late into the night, you don’t want to be caught on the water without the proper safety precautions. In addition to illuminating your surroundings marine lighting serves a host of versatile functions. It can help you see in dense mist or fog and makes you more visible to other boaters in low visibility conditions. Lighting makes an affordable gift that no boater should ever be without.

If your boater enjoys their 2-cycle engine then help them keep it running affordably with Yamalube 2W oil.

Spring Checklist Item 3

Our next item on the checklist is something we should probably be doing everytime wwe take the boat out, but sometimes we all forget. Fluids, props and hulls need to be checked thoroughly before heading out on the water this spring. It’s easy to check fluid levels like oil, steering, power trim reservoirs and coolant. And if you didn’t change your oil prior to winterizing you’ll want to change it before heading out. Many Yamaha 2 cycle engines run better and more efficiently with Yamalube 2W oil, for example.

Propellers and hulls should be checked for nicks and dings that may be unsafe or cause the motor to operate at less than optimum efficiency. You’ll also want to ensure the prop is seated securely. When inspecting the hull keep an eye out for any cracking or blistering that may indicate a larger problem. A little preparedness goes a long way when getting ready for the next boating season.

Pre-Season Snow Mobile Maintenance: Part One

With a particularly cold winter forecasted here in the Pacific Northwest, it’s time to start thinking about pulling the snowmobile out of storage. Although there may not be any powder on the ground yet, now is the time to go through your preseason maintenance. Hopefully you took the time to clean and tune the vehicle before putting it in storage, as his will make your job infinitely easier.

Start by gathering all of the necessary tools and supplies, including socket wrenches, spark plugs and Yamalube 2M oil. Move the snowmobile to a clear, open space so you have ample room to work. The first step is simply to clean the outside of the vehicle, removing any dirt, grime or debris that may have accumulated while it was idle for a few months. This is also a good time to do a careful visual inspection of the exterior.
