I Drive the Boat, You Buy the Mercury Optimax Oil

15hpI’m typically the one of my friends who ends up driving on long car trips. The reason for this is just because I have the tendency to keep my car cleaner than my friends and there’s a lot more leg room in my Subaru than there is in most of my friends’ more compact cars. The deal is usually that if I drive, my friends will be the ones who cover the costs of gas.

In addition to being the one with the car, I’ve also got a boat, so our boating trips work very similarly to our road trips. I’m always willing to take people out on a boat trip, as long as they’re willing to cover the costs for fuel and Mercury Optimax oil. Generally, my friends are always fine with this set-up because we have such a great time on the boat.

Saving Money with Bulk Mercury Optimax Oil

Mercury-Marine-2Since a few of my buddies and I all have our own boats, we often alternate on whose turn it is to take their boat out and be the ‘driver’ for the day (or the weekend, depending on where we’re going). We take our boats out so often that we’ve essentially turned this into a bit of a routine, where we always know whose turn it is because we figured out an order.

Another way we make things easier on ourselves is by purchasing boat-related items in bulk. For instance, we’ll buy bulk Mercury Optimax oil when we know that we have to do maintenance and then we split the costs, which winds up being much less expensive than it would be for each of us to buy our own oil. It’s been an effective plan thus far.

Boat Maintenance With Bulk Mercury Optimax Oil

50hpMy friends and I decided to go out on our first fishing excursion of the year not too long ago. It’s still a little cold out, but we’d been itching to go fishing for quite a while, and I’d been hearing that the walleye were out. We had pretty much all of the supplies that we needed for a nice fishing trip; at the time, all we had to do was help my buddy out to perform maintenance on his boat.

We pulled from his large stock of bulk Mercury Optimax oil and made sure to perform all the required maintenance before we took the boat out to the water. I think it’s smart that he keeps such a large amount of it on hand at all times, so that he doesn’t have to go out and buy more when he wants to actually use his boat, whatever the occasion.

Some Good Advice

boat-shoes-8I have a hard time trusting mechanics in general.  I always think that they are scheming to get more money out of me.  Whenever I take my car into the garage for something, I end up getting something totally unrelated worked on as well because they deemed that it was necessary.  It always costs me whenever I see a mechanic which makes me weary whenever they give me some advice.

I asked a local mechanic about which oil I should use on my outboard engine.  I told him that I usually use Mercury Optimax Oil but I was thinking of using something else.  He told me that as long as I stick to one brand, I should be fine.  If the oil I was using wasn’t causing me any problems, then there was no need to change it.  I was surprised he didn’t try to up-sell me and make me buy the most expensive brand of oil out there.  I was thankful of the truthful answer he gave me.  Why can’t more mechanics be like him?

Friendly Arguments

My best friend and I tend to argue about things a lot; typically these are very trivial things like whether or not Harvey Keitel was in Pulp Fiction or what year the last Beatles album was released. Luckily, these days, we’re always able to pull out our smartphones and prove to each other who’s right and who’s wrong.

Recently, we’ve started making minor bets over these little arguments that we have; we’ll buy each other something small or hand over a few bucks. In our most recent argument, I bet him that squids had eight tentacles. I wound up buying him a bottle of Mercury Optimax oil as his winnings, because after all, I had lost the bet (squids have ten tentacles).

Going to a Professional

I’ve always been wary about trusting the opinions of friends when it comes to finding the right products for things like my car or my boat. I always like to go to a professional to get the information I need. For instance, recently, I was trying to find out what kind of oil I should purchase for my boat.

I went to a boat mechanic and he was able to recommend to me the right kind of oil for my boat and he even let me know which one I’d be able to find at an affordable price. I picked up some Optimax oil and applied it to my boat so that it would run smoothly. It’s worked just fine since I did that; I haven’t had any problems.

Catch and Release

I went with my dad to Banks Lake for Labor Day weekend. He had gone out there a few times before with his buddies on his new boat but I hadn’t yet gone out there with him. He’s big on fishing so that’s what we decided we would do out there; we were fishing with on a catch and release basis.

When we got back home, my mom asked us why we hadn’t brought home any fish for her to cook up. Next time we go out there maybe we will. As long as we’ve got some Mercury Optimax oil, we’ll be able to go there again and actually bring back some fish to eat.

Catching Marlin

Montauk Point is the home of New York’s oldest lighthouse. It can be found in Long Island, but the lighthouse isn’t the only major point of interest out in Montauk. Montauk claims to have more saltwater fishing records than any port in the world, and these claims might very well be true.

At Montauk Point, people can fish for mackerel, cod, weakfish, striped bass, and tuna, but perhaps the most exciting fish to try to catch at Montauk Point is the marlin. Because marlins are so fast and large, many fishermen believe them to be of a higher tier in the sport of fishing than most other fish. To catch a marlin is to earn prestige in the fishing world and to catch one, all you’d need to do is load your boat up with Optimax oil and head to Montauk Point.

Starting a Charter Fishing Boat Business

I’ve been an avid fisherman and boater for decades. I’m coming up on retirement soon, so I’ve been giving a great deal of thought about what I will do with my time. I feel young and heart; there’s no way I’m going to sit around the house all day.

I’ve been giving serious thought to starting a charter fishing boat business in my area. It makes a lot of sense. I already know the best areas to fish; I can do my own boat maintenance; and I know where to get deals on bulk Mercury OptiMax oil. I need to think this through a bit more before I discuss this business idea with my wife.

Minnesota Boating

According to Boating Life magazine, there is one lake for every 424 Minnesotans. There is also one boat registered for every six Minnesotans, which is a statistic no other state can most. Most access to water is free with ramps open 24 hours a day (oh how I wish that were true where I live!).

The state government is also working to make Lake Superior shore more accessible. Makes sense for a state that’s mission statement reads: “It is the policy of this state, which is blessed with an abundance of water, to promote its full use and enjoyment by all of the people.” With a welcoming statement like that, how can you not want to grab your boat trailer and some OptiMax oil and set out for Minnesota?

Advantages of OptiMax Oil

Increased demands are put on the lubricants used in an OptiMax engine. (An OptiMax engine is direct-injected as opposed to carbureted or electronic fuel-injected). To keep pace, the manufacturer recommends OptiMax oil.

You can buy individual containers or you can save some money and purchase bulk Mercury OptiMax oil. The oil has additional additives that provide an extra layer of protection. By using the oil, which can be mixed with Mercury Premium Plus, your engine will maintain peak engine performance for many uses.

California Adventure

The first part of our extended vacation we spent in San Francisco. My wife and I both have family in the area. We took two days to see the most touristy attractions – Alcatraz, Pier 39, Fisherman’s Wharf and more.

While we were on Alcatraz – which is actually a quite beautiful island despite its grim history – I kept finding myself staring out at the water watching the boats go by. The few days we were in town were unseasonably warm and sunny, so you could tell all the boaters were taking full advantage. Much to my wife’s annoyance, I stopped to talk with some boaters while we were walking around the marina. I wound up discussing the ins and outs of OptiMax oil with one guy. When you have a common interest like boating you can make friends anywhere!
