Leftover Oil

My best friend has always been a huge fan of boating and fishing and he finally got around to purchasing his own boat recently. He’s kind of become a little consumed with it, trying to make sure everything’s always in perfect condition. Boating has pretty much been all he’s talked about for weeks.

I used to have my own boat but I sold it when I was running low on money a while back. Even though I sold my own boat a while ago, I still had some Yamalube oil sitting around so I decided to give it to my friend, knowing he’d be able to make a lot more use out of it than I could.

Christmas Shopping

It’s getting to be that time of year again when Christmas is just around the corner. I’ve been trying to get all the shopping for Christmas presents out of the way but my family never really gives me any hints of what I should buy them and when I ask them what they want, they usually nonchalantly say that they can’t think of anything specific and that I’ll figure something out.

I had to pretty much improvise when I was picking up Christmas presents for everyone. I got some candles and things like that for my mom. I got my dad some 2 cycle oil for his boat, because I figured you could never have enough for that. And I got some video games for my little brother, because all he really does is play video games.

Be Prepared

I prefer to buy things in bulk as opposed to buying products individually. I’ve always been a big fan of places like Costco where I can buy massive amounts of the products I need for decent wholesale prices. I do this with food – preferably with the kind of food that doesn’t expire too quickly – and I do this with many other different kinds of products that I use regularly.

For instance, I do this with products that I use to maintain my car and my boat, mostly because I believe it’s better to already be prepared for a problem or an oil change or something like that than it is to not be prepared at all. If you’ve got enough bottles of two cycle oil, you don’t have to go out too often and find more of it, as long as you keep the oil in a safe place.

Fuel Additives

Since I’ve purchased a boat, I’ve started to become a bit more familiar with the different types of maintenance accessories that I need in order to take care of my boat. For instance, I always take a look at the different types of motor oil and figure out what’s best for my boat.

I often use Yamalube motor oil, but I’ve also started checking out certain fuel additives. One of the fuel additives I use most regularly is Ringfree Plus, which is also created by Yamaha, the creators of Yamalube motor oil. Ringfree Plus is good for cleaning carburetors, fuel injectors, intake ports, combustion chambers, and intake valves.

Making a Boating Gift Basket

My daughter recently bought a boat; I’d been taking her out on my own boat since she was a little girl so I was proud to see her following in her father’s footsteps. I decided that, for Christmas, I would purchase some boat accessories and things like that for her that she would probably need for her new boat.

For instance, I picked up a few bottles of outboard oil to add to a big boating gift basket that I was going to give to her. The gift basket I put together also included some supplies that could be used for cleaning her boat, as well as a few other useful maintenance items. I think she’ll really appreciate her gift and she’ll be able to make immediate good use out of it as well.

Boating in Kansas

When you think Kansas, you’re probably not thinking of beaches or boating at all. But you’d be surprised that there actually are a few places for Kansans and people visiting Kansas can go to swim, hang out on the beach, and even roam around in a boat. The bigger ones are in the Kansas City area, bordering Missouri, such as Blue Springs Lake and Longview Lake.

But there are also places actually within the borders of Kansas like Shawnee Mission Park Beach and Kill Creek Park Beach. Regardless of where you choose, it’s nice to know that there are places even in the center of the United States where people can still find ways to boat. Just don’t forget to load up on Evinrude oil before you hit the lakes.

The Captain

My best friend took us out on his new boat recently. He’s kind of a ridiculous guy, so even though it was a smaller boat, he was acting like he was some big boat captain; he even bought a silly outfit to wear and refused to answer any of us unless we referred to him as Captain. Regardless of all that, we were having a really good time; I like his new boat a lot.

I think that we’re planning on making a few more trips out before winter hits too hard. I was so amused by our previous trip that I decided to trade my friend a couple of bottles of 2 stroke oil in order to be the so-called ‘captain’ of the boat for a day. He gave me his captain’s hat and everything!

A Fisherman’s Secret

My best friend is a genius when it comes to fishing; he fishes as if it were his job, like he’s professionally trained or something. He’s always coming back from fishing expeditions with tons of fish to cook up. I’ve never been fully aware as to how he does it! It might be a certain kind of bait, or something he does with his pole, or maybe he just knows where the best spots are.

Regardless, I wanted to learn his secrets through any means possible, because I’ve always wanted to fish as well as he can. I told him I’d trade him a bottle of Yamalube oil for his boat if he could teach me how he learned to catch so many fish. He gave up his secret pretty quick after that!

Ruined Jeans

I’m one of those people who has a favorite pair of jeans. I know some people say jeans are jeans, but I disagree. I definitely have a favorite pair; they’re the most comfortable pair of pants I own and I look good in them too! How could they NOT be my favorite?

Needless to say, I was devastated when I spilled a bottle of Yamaha oil on my jeans. Not only did I need new jeans but I needed new oil for my boat. It was a pretty devastating loss on both counts, but the oil wasn’t as expensive as buying new jeans, so at least there was that.

Using Two-Stroke Oil

Two-stroke oil is a special kind of oil used for crankcase compression two-stroke engines. A four-cycle engine has a closed crankcase, but two-stroke engines in comparison, use the crankcase as part of the induction tract. Because of this, gasoline must be mixed in with the two-stroke oil for lubrication.

When the two-stroke oil – also known as two cycle oil – is burned with the other fuel, there is often blue smoke because the oil is dyed blue so that it can be more easily recognized when mixed in with the gasoline. There is also often a specific odor that is produced by this type of oil.

Carbon Build-Up

As gasoline burns in the combustion chamber of an engine, carbon is typically generated, which can result in a lot of carbon build-up. Unfortunately, this carbon build-up can interfere with how well your car or boat can run, even though it is a fairly common event when it comes to the burning of gasoline. In order to clean out the engine, special engine cleaning solvents have to be purchased.

There is another way to deal with carbon build-up, however, at least for boats, and that’s by not having to deal with it nearly at all. In order to do this, one must initially purchase a type of oil – such as Ringfree Plus – that is focused on keeping carbon build-up from occurring in the first place. No carbon build-up means a boat that’s running much more smoothly than it would be otherwise.

The Search for Nessie

My father’s a fairly superstitious man and on top of that, he’s Scottish. He was always the type to tell tall tales about strange things he’d seen back when he lived in Glasgow. I swear I’d heard him tell the same stories about UFOs landing in his backyard to anyone who was willing to listen to him babble for ten minutes.

Being a Scotsman, his favorite tall tale, of course, was the Loch Ness Monster, or as he liked to call her, ‘Nessie.’ He always had stories to share about ‘the time he saw Nessie.’ He’s always said that when he’s got the money, he’ll take the whole family out to Scotland so that he can show her to us. It might be a long ride, so hopefully he’ll fuel his boat with Mercury oil.
