What Else to Buy with Your Boat

When purchasing a boat, there are often other expenditures that should be looked at that some people might forget about when looking at their budgets for a boat. For instance, you need to make sure that you have the proper safety equipment for your boat; you should have life jackets. You should also make sure to have a garbage can so that you don’t litter in the water.

Other things that should be taken into consideration are what maintenance supplies you’re going to pick up for your boat. It’s important to choose the right boat motor oil so that your boat will be running perfectly. You should also be sure to pick up cleaning supplies to keep off rust.

A Boat Fixer-Upper

My friend recently purchased a fixer-upper boat. I worried about this because I feel like it’s a little dangerous to be using a boat that you know needs to be fixed up, considering using a boat typically involves being out in the middle of open water and a boat breaking down on you out there would be bad, to say the least. Nobody wants to get stuck in the middle of nowhere, especially if you have to swim to safety.

But he’s been working on it non-stop. He’s got more of a mechanical brain than I do, so perhaps he understands how a fixer-upper truly can be fixed better than me. He took it out for the first time a couple weeks ago. He put some outboard motor oil in his boat and it’s been working fine.

Ruined Jeans

I’m one of those people who has a favorite pair of jeans. I know some people say jeans are jeans, but I disagree. I definitely have a favorite pair; they’re the most comfortable pair of pants I own and I look good in them too! How could they NOT be my favorite?

Needless to say, I was devastated when I spilled a bottle of Yamaha oil on my jeans. Not only did I need new jeans but I needed new oil for my boat. It was a pretty devastating loss on both counts, but the oil wasn’t as expensive as buying new jeans, so at least there was that.

Boating in Idaho

I didn’t know when I moved to Idaho how frequently I would end up boating. There are lakes all over the state that I had no idea about when I moved here for my job. Sometimes new friends would take me to Priest Lake to go sailing or Cascade Lake to go fishing and eventually I realized I had to get a boat of my own.

Most frequently these days, I like to travel out to Lake Lowell in southwestern Idaho, because I enjoy fishing. Every now and then I’ll also head out to Redfish Lake or Lucky Peak Lake, however, and sometimes the ones that I used to go to as well. I always remember to bring an extra bottle of Yamaha outboard oil along with me, just in case.

Life Imitates Video Games

When I was younger, one of my favorite video games was Wave Race 64. It was a Nintendo 64 game where you would race around on jet skis that looked a lot like Waverunners. My friends and I played it so often that we would only even attempt to play it on Expert difficulty, considering we were all so good.

Now that I’m grown up and the Nintendo 64 is long behind me, I recently wound up purchasing a Waverunner so that I can learn to do the things I liked in the video game in real life. While I might not be going off extravagant jumps or anything like in the video game, it’s still an exhilarating experience. Now, I just stock up on Waverunner oil and I hit the water!

Buying a Boat

I’m not the type of person who just buys something without doing his research. I’m big on reading Consumer Reports and searching for optimum information online about whatever might interest me at the time. Most recently, I found myself interested in purchasing a boat, something I’d wanted for a long time.

Once I’d finally decided I’d done enough research to make a decision, I went out to purchase a boat. I was enthused to be able to have something new to do on the weekends, finding new interesting places to go boating and fishing in my area. To keep my new boat in good condition, I always make sure to stock up with outboard oil and everything else it needs to keep it in tip-top shape.

Wine and Salmon

If you’re looking to go fishing for salmon in Michigan – or even in the United States at all – my money’s on Grand Traverse Bay. It’s a perfect place to chill out, relax, and fish for some tasty salmon. If (somehow) you get tired of fishing, no problem! Grand Traverse Bay is one of the centers of Michigan’s wine industry, so there are plenty of wineries to explore when you’re not out in your boat.

Once you’ve figured out which wine will go best with all of the salmon you’re about to catch out on the open water, you can ensure a victorious day of fishing if you get out there early enough. In order to beat the crowds, you might want to use a bottle of Evinrude XD50 Oil to service your engine. Once you’ve done that, you’ll surely be in perfect condition to get out there and catch some delicious salmon.

Croatian Coast

The next big summer hot spot, according to People magazine, is the Croatian coast. That one made me scratch my head. When I think of Croatia my mind doesn’t immediately go to tropical paradise.

Apparently, the historic city of Dubrovnik sits right on the Adriatic Sea and is quite beautiful and budget friendly. Grilled octopus, I read, is a specialty along the Croatian coast. With all the money I’ve saved by purchasing affordable Evinrude outboard oil over the years, maybe I’ll be able to afford a trip to such an off-beat destination.

Bulk Motor Oil

While distracting myself from all the paperwork and financials I’ll need to get in order to start a business, I’ve been searching for deals on bulk outboard motor oil. If you know where to look, then you can get some truly incredible deals. Good prices are available not only on cheap lubricants but on quality bulk outboard motor oil.

When I do order bulk oil, I always make a point in asking about the type of container it will come in. You don’t want to wind up with a rusted container that will leak. Ideally you want a container that can hold up for several years in fluctuating temperatures.

Charter Fishing Trip

For my buddy’s bachelor party we decided to forgo the stereotypical drunken routine in favor of a guys’ weekend getaway. Eight of us pitched in and we rented out a beach house for three days and two nights. The house had great views and was close to the marina.

All of us love boating and fishing, so one afternoon we chartered a private boat for fishing. As the fishing outing was winding down, I found myself chatting with the first mate about the best outboard motor oil. He and I were in agreement that Yamaha has a decent line of oils.

Boating in Tennessee

I can personally testify to the quality of boating in Tennessee. My brother-in-law and his family live in Lexington, Kentucky, and we often trailer his boat and go down to Tennessee. He goes there so often that he has a good relationship with a local shop owner who gives him a deal on outboard oil.

On our frequent trips to Tennessee we’ve spent time exploring the Mississippi, Tennessee, and Cumberland Rivers. Those rivers run through the four biggest cities in the state, so you get a pretty good lay of the land and culture. Plus, with 32 major reservoirs and 300 marine events each year, you get to meet up with a lot of other boating enthusiasts and trade stories.

East Coast Storm

A buddy of mine lives in the Mid-Atlantic region, near Washington D.C. A week or so ago they had a massive freak storm. The storm, according to my friend, came out of nowhere and lasted only an hour. That was long enough to do a lot of damage.

Over a million homes in his area lost power and it didn’t get restored for nearly a week. Trees were down all over the place so it took a while for the electric company to get in there and fix things up. The roof of my friend’s shed blew halfway off, but, he said the strangest thing happened – even though the roof was gone his Yamaha outboard oil was still standing neatly in rows just as he had stored them!
