The Spade-Toothed Whale

Recently, specimens of the spade-toothed whale were identified from carcasses that had washed up in New Zealand. These spade-toothed whales are the rarest large mammals on the planet whose existence have been confirmed. In the past two hundred years, there have hardly even been five sightings of this whale, even though it is definitively a separate species from other types of beaked whales.

As someone who’s always wanted to find rare species of animal, this discovery has intrigued me to no end. To think that there’s such a large animal that’s remained essentially hidden for all these years means that who knows what else is out there. I think that what I’m going to do is pick up some Mercury oil for my boat and go out on the ocean to see if I can’t find something rare and interesting myself.

Perhaps a Mermaid, but Probably Not

I know this is going to sound ridiculous, but I swear that the last time I went out on my boat, I saw a mermaid. It might have had something to do with the fact that I hadn’t eaten in a couple of days and I was dehydrated and hungover and I had dropped my glasses overboard at the time, but I’m still pretty sure that’s what I saw.

My friends have pointed out to me all of the reasons why I probably didn’t see what I thought I saw, but I’m an optimist and I’m a believer. I’ve decided that I’m going to see if I can find the mermaid again under similar circumstances in the same place. I’m going to load my boat up with Mercury oil and make sure everything’s all set before I go out and try to find her again.

Long Weekend

I’m a business executive and my job can be very stressful, so whenever I get a chance to take some time off of work – especially if it’s paid time – I leap at the opportunity to fit some relaxation into my usual busy schedule. Whenever there’s a long weekend for some reason, such as for Thanksgiving or Labor Day, I always make sure to find something interesting to do.

On our most recent long weekend, I decided it would be a good time to go out on a boat trip. After I got off of work and started up the weekend, I made sure to pick up some Mercury engine oil on my way home. This way, I could quickly ensure that my boat was up to par when it came to its required maintenance.

An Irrational Fear of Cruise Ships

I have an irrational fear of cruise ships that stems from the knowledge I have about the Titanic. I’ve obviously seen the movie Titanic, as well as a number of documentaries about the ship, and for some reason, they’ve instilled this really bizarre deep-seated fear of cruise ships. I was invited out to go on a cruise with some family members not too long ago and I had to vehemently refuse because even the thought of being on a cruise ship made me woozy.

Oddly enough, it’s only cruise ships that freak me out. Other types of watercraft don’t terrify me at all. I’m actually a huge fan of boating. Just the other day, I went out and picked up some Mercury Premium Plus oil for my own boat. However, you’ll never see me on a giant cruise ship-sized watercraft; I think part of what really terrifies me is the sheer size of the boat itself. I wouldn’t be able to deal with it.

Brand Loyalty

Ever since I bought a boat, I decided I would learn how to do all of my own boat maintenance. I’ve always done my own maintenance on any car I’ve ever owned, so I figured it’d be worthwhile learning about how to keep my boat maintained as well, considering that’s the type of thing I’m interested in.

Some people, myself included, develop a kind of brand loyalty towards certain types of items used for boat maintenance. On my boat, for instance, I only use Mercury 2 stroke premium outboard motor oil. I did a lot of research to figure out what would be best for the type of boat that I have and that’s what I landed on.

A Mechanic’s Opinion

I’m a mechanic; I work a lot with cars, but my specialty is actually with working on boats, which allows me to have a niche market of working on my customers’ cars and boats, letting them bring both vehicles to the same place with the mechanics they already know and trust.

Sometimes people have asked me which brands of oil they should be purchasing for their boats. Personally, I’ve always stuck with Mercury oil for the engines of boats that I work on, but I know other people that use different brands of oil and have had similar success rates. I intend to keep using Mercury oil when I’m at work, however

Getting Back on the Water

I live in Washington State, so we get a lot of weather that’s not really great as boating weather. It definitely rains a lot during the spring and the fall and it can get quite a bit too cold or snowy during the winter. Because of this, sometimes I’ll go through fairly long periods of time before I can go boating again; usually my last trip is in October and I can’t go out again until March or April.

There were a few things I needed to do when spring was ending to get my boat prepared. I like to give it a good cleaning before I do anything else. Then I get the supplies I need to deal with its maintenance. When I was almost done, all I needed was a fresh bottle of Mercury 2 stroke oil and I’d be ready to hit the open water.

Mosquito Lagoon

I was visiting some friends in Florida and one of my friends recently purchased a boat and decided to take us all out fishing while we were there for the week. He took us to this place he had gone before called Mosquito Lagoon. It was pretty cool; he was telling us facts like how there were some fish that only bred in that lagoon system.

There were a lot of interesting wild birds in the area too, which was interesting to look at. A lot of people were out clamming in the area as well. We put some Mercury outboard oil into the boat and we were able to have a great time.

Stick to the Classic Containers

I’m a big fan of the show Seinfeld. There’s an episode of the show where hipster doofus Cosmo Kramer tries to create a new product that can be used to carry oil. The idea is an oil tanker ‘bladder’ which is essentially oil being held in a giant rubber ball. Like many of Kramer’s ideas on the show, this idea drastically backfires.

After the oil bladder falls out the window, it’s proven that the rubber ball is not nearly sturdy enough to carry that much liquid. He would have needed a much sturdier container to actually work. He should have just kept it in a Mercury Oil 55 gallon drum; there are never any problems with those!

Catch and Release

I went with my dad to Banks Lake for Labor Day weekend. He had gone out there a few times before with his buddies on his new boat but I hadn’t yet gone out there with him. He’s big on fishing so that’s what we decided we would do out there; we were fishing with on a catch and release basis.

When we got back home, my mom asked us why we hadn’t brought home any fish for her to cook up. Next time we go out there maybe we will. As long as we’ve got some Mercury Optimax oil, we’ll be able to go there again and actually bring back some fish to eat.

Biggest Fish Contest

I was fishing with a close buddy of mine and we decided to make a gentleman’s wager in regards to who could catch the biggest fish. Neither of us had ever really caught a whopper before, but we figured it was something that could allow us to test, perhaps, which of us was the better fisherman. Or at the very least, it’d just be a fun, interesting way to spice up our fishing trip.

We were fishing for hours and honestly, we weren’t getting very many bites until the very end of the night, surprisingly enough. We each caught a single fish by the end of it all. He won the bet and I had to give him a bottle of Mercury engine oil for his boat.

Scared of Sharks

When I saw Jaws in theaters as a kid, it terrified me. I couldn’t go into any body of water for years; I was always afraid that I’d see a dorsal fin moving towards me and I’d start to hear that music in my head and then I’d be done for. That being said, before Jaws, I used to love the water. I loved boating with my family as a child and I had hoped that someday I’d be able to do it with a family of my own.

Now that I have that family, I’ve had to recognize how irrational my fear of sharks is, so that I can have enjoyable trips out on the water. Considering we typically go out on lakes rather than open ocean, I don’t really have to be afraid of any great whites. But just in case, I load my boat up with Mercury Premium Plus oil, so that if I do see any sharks, I can fly off faster than you can say “Look, there’s a shark!”
