Boat Motor Oil for Cathartic Fishing Trips

k-beach-phillips-in-river-boat-1956-webThere’s nothing I love more than going fishing with my friends. I find it to be an extremely cathartic experience that helps me to unwind. It’s also a good way to catch up with your buddies if you don’t get a chance to see them that often throughout the week. Since most of my friends and I have very busy schedules, we tend to have a lot to talk about when we fish on the weekends.

Usually, I’ll just fill up my boat with boat motor oil and check out whether or not any other maintenance needs to be done for my boat on Wednesday or Thursday night, so that I can know for sure that my boat will be ready to go by the weekend. Usually, my friends and I will get up early on either a Saturday or a Sunday and we head out to a nearby lake for fishing.

Two Cycle Oil and Underwater Photography

Underwater-underwater-photography-32684062-1600-1200I’m very interested in underwater photography and taking photographs of the wildlife in nearby lakes, rivers, and oceans. I’ve invested a lot of time and effort in this hobby because taking pictures of sea life is something I’ve loved since I was young and I got my first waterproof disposable camera. Technology is much more advanced these days, of course.

What I usually do – when I’ve got free time and it’s a nice, clear day outside – is get my gear ready and my boat filled up with two cycle oil and go out to find a secluded place to dive and take photos. I’ve gotten some really interesting photos of certain animals that I’m really proud of, particularly one that I took of an eel poking its head out from the rocks.

Modern Pirates With Mercury Engine Oil

03somalia.xlarge1I think that if you were a classic-styled pirate in this day and age, you’d have to run things quite a bit differently than back in the old days. For one, I’m not sure how much buried treasure is actually out there anymore. Another problem is that the seas are probably policed a lot better than they were in the heyday of pirates.

You would definitely have to adjust the kinds of ships and boats that you traveled around in. Maybe you would still have a giant ship that used sails and everything, but maybe you’d also have smaller motorized boats for the purposes of speed. And if that were the case, you’d also need some Mercury engine oil to keep your boats properly maintained.

Evinrude Oil For My Boat

BeckerLakeI have a friend who has always been loyal to Yamaha products; he’s a musician who has always loved using their musical instruments, so when it came to purchasing items for his boat and other vehicles, it was sort of a no-brainer for him. He suggested that I use Yamaha products as well, but I wanted to make sure the items I used were perfect specifically for my boat.

While I’m certain that Yamaha products work perfectly for him, I actually did some research and found out that with my particular boat, Evinrude oil would be the best choice for maximum efficiency. It’s always important to do the research before you purchase products for your vehicle’s maintenance so you can properly meet its needs.

Always Be Prepared

obs-speedalcoholslideA lot of my friends consider me paranoid because I usually always plan for the worst-case scenario whenever we go somewhere.  It was a habit I acquired during my time as a troop scout when I was younger.  Bringing an extra pair of anything seemed like a good idea to me at the time and I guess it stuck with me all the way to adulthood.

On our fishing trips, I usually pack an emergency kit consisting of extra ice, water, fuel and outboard oil.  Most of the time, we never end up using any of these but I always think ahead just in case.  I always end up getting teased by the other guys, but I feel better knowing we’re prepared for just about anything.

After Holiday Errands

hatteras_cole_boatI found myself with nothing much to do after the holidays.  I have some time off so I decided to help my wife run some errands.  A quick trip to the post office turned into an hour-long struggle to keep my patience.  It definitely killed some time and I had nowhere else to be so I gutted through it.

I found a gift card I got for Christmas in my wallet when I finally paid for my package to be delivered.  That was enough to lift my spirits and alleviate the frustration I felt while waiting on line at the post office.  I decided to make a quick stop to the store and pick up some Ringfree Plus and a replacement blade for my engine.

Outboard Motors

6a00d8341c339953ef00e54f3d08ed8834-640wiThe outboard motor is a typical propulsion system for boats and is one of the most efficient ways to get your boat around. Figuring out what kind of outboard motor you want for your boat can sometimes be the tricky part, however. Luckily, there are a few major brands that it’s typically best to select from.

Evinrude and Yamaha are pretty much definitively among the best outboard motors for boats you could possibly find. Primarily, from my experiences anyway, the only differences are related to weight, which is important for the hull you mount it on. Personally, I have an Evinrude one so I make sure to stock up on Evinrude oil now and then to make sure I’ve got everything running well.

Maintenance After Winter

512502Don’t forget to go through the motions when it comes to boat maintenance after the winter season is over! I know that it’s very easy to forget about your boat when the lakes are iced over or when it’s just flat-out too cold to even really go outside, depending on where you live.

You’ve got to make sure everything is running fine when winter is over though because there’s no other time that’s more likely for your boat to break down (or at least mess up in some way) on you. It’s important to make sure that your boat motor oil has been changed and is up to standard before you go out on any journeys on your boat.

From Boats to Spacecraft

I wonder if someday we’ll be able to have personal spacecraft the way that we have personal boats. I’m sure that centuries ago, nobody thought that people would have personal motorized boats like the ones that are so commonplace now, even if perhaps people back then had their own sailboats or canoes or whatever. I’m not saying this is something that will happen in my lifetime, but I’m talking centuries from now. Will people go out and buy their own spaceships?

What I wonder is if the same companies that make boats will transition over to making spacecraft someday, or if it will be car companies, or perhaps new companies entirely. And I wonder if the companies that make the maintenance supplies for boats and whatnot will be the same ones making the oil and other things for your spaceship. That’d give Mercury oil a whole other meaning.

Choosing Marine Diesel Engine Oil

Special marine grade oil is needed for diesel marine engines, as they typically carry high loads for extended periods of time. The National Marine Manufacturers Association tests diesel engine oils and gives recommendations based on those tests. The oils tested may be entirely synthetic or partially synthetic.

NMMA-certified oils include: oil TC-W3 amalie, FC-W and FC-W (CAT). TC-W3 is used with two-stroke engines, FC-W with four-stroke engines, and FC-W(CAT) with four-stroke engines that have exhaust treatment catalyst systems. When selecting diesel oil, be sure to consider added characteristics

Fast Facts: Marine Engine Oil

Why use marine engine oil? Isn’t all oil the same? In a word: no. The oil you use in your car is not suitable for your boat.

Boats have a closed loop cooling system, unlike automobiles. Boats, obviously, are subject to water corrosion and buildup. For those reasons, marine engine oil, with its high anti-corrosion properties, is better suited for boats than regular engine oil used on cars.

Fuel Economy Tip 7

The seventh and final installment of our fuel saving guide for boaters is yet another in the long list of great practices that many people simply overlook. Since maintenance can cut down on the time you get to spend enjoying your boat, many routine maintenance functions are the first to fall by the wayside. That said, it’s essential to ensure the hull of your boat is clear and free of all marine life and obstructions that will affect your fuel efficiency.

Even the smallest amount of marine growth can take a big chunk out of your fuel efficiency. This is especially the case if you keep your boat in the water. Marine growth can build up quickly, and a lot of boat owners simply forget about this. Everything on the hull creates a sort of drag and as a result of this friction your fuel economy can be needlessly and tremendously diminished. So don’t forget to keep that hull clean! And with the right two cycle outboard motor oil you’ll be even better equipped to save money at the pump.
