Rules and Regulations for Boating in Florida

Now that May is upon us, warm weather is starting to reach even the colder climates. If you’re fortunate enough to live in or visit a warmer region, like Florida, make sure you know the boating rules and regulations before you head out on open waters. You don’t want to ruin your vacation with a violation ticket!

First off, any person born after January 1, 1988 who wants to operate a ten or more horsepower boat in Florida must have a Florida Boating Safety Education Identification card. Every boater, regardless of birth date, needs to be compliant with safety and equipment rules, marine life awareness, personal watercraft, and boating under the influence. Those rules, as well as the regulations for catching saltwater and freshwater fish, are available online. Don’t forget to get your boat in tip-top shape with Evinrude XD100 oil!
