I’ve got three kids myself, between the ages of thirteen and seventeen, and our house has become the go-to ‘hangout spot’ for them and all of their friends. Because of this, there is rarely a time where I am able to have any quiet time to myself. I’m fine with my kids having their friends over, but I need to have some ‘me time.’

My favorite way of getting some time to myself is just by filling my boat up with Mercury Premium Plus and taking it out on the water. Sometimes I’ll go fishing and sometimes I’ll just use it as a nice way to get myself isolated so I can do something like read or listen to the radio, without any kids running around all over the place.

There are a lot of reports where I live of boats breaking down and people getting stranded out on the ocean, which is something that I obviously would prefer to completely avoid. I’ve got plenty of Mercury 2 cycle oil that I use on my boat, as well as all of the other necessary products that are required for proper maintenance. These products can include fuel, fuel additives, cleaning supplies, replacement parts, and plenty of other things. I also have a satellite phone that I take with me in case I ever get stranded out on the ocean for whatever reason.

Mercury Oil Leads to Major Life Moments

I can think back on so many amazing memories that have involved boating over the course of my life, all the way back to when I was a little kid going out on boats with my parents. I spent tons of time with my friends in high school and college out on a boat as well.

The most recent major memory that involved boating was when I proposed to my fiancée, which I did while we were on a romantic boat ride together. Without boats and Mercury oil, I’d never have had all those great times. I’m very thankful that my parents introduced me to boating and that I met so many people with similar boat-related interests in my life.

15hpI’m typically the one of my friends who ends up driving on long car trips. The reason for this is just because I have the tendency to keep my car cleaner than my friends and there’s a lot more leg room in my Subaru than there is in most of my friends’ more compact cars. The deal is usually that if I drive, my friends will be the ones who cover the costs of gas.

In addition to being the one with the car, I’ve also got a boat, so our boating trips work very similarly to our road trips. I’m always willing to take people out on a boat trip, as long as they’re willing to cover the costs for fuel and Mercury Optimax oil. Generally, my friends are always fine with this set-up because we have such a great time on the boat.

I’ve always believed that being prepared for these sorts of thing is far better than finding yourself running out of necessary materials at an inopportune time. This is why I always try to either buy bulk amounts of oil or large containers of oil for my family.

I try to at the very least keep a Mercury oil 55 gallon drum in my garage; I usually pretend like it’s not there so that if I do forget oil, I have a large supply to fall back on. I do the same kind of thing with my bank accounts – pretending the money in your savings account isn’t actually there is a great way to budget; that’s how I’ve been able to afford multiple boats.

This can be anything from the physical tools required to do serious maintenance to something as simple as the motor oil used on the boat. I’ve definitely found a few favorites when it comes to the top brands in the motor oil industry.

I haven’t thought too hard about what specifically the best outboard motor oil might be though. I think what’s most important is that there’s a level of consistency. For instance, it is always best to use the oil that the engineers that designed your outboard motor had formulated especially for that particular motor.

My husband is an engineer who understands things like that much better than I do, whereas I focused on artsy things when I was in college. Thus, when my husband asks me to run an errand for him that’s related to something mechanical he has to do, I always make sure to get all of the facts.

Changing Your Boat Motor Oil

Obviously, it’s quite a bit different from changing a car’s oil, but it’s still something that’s absolutely worth learning overall.

Generally, learning how to change the oil is something that is described in the manual that was purchased with the boat or with the outboard. The overall process tends to be draining the boat motor oil completely and then adding the oil from the drain hole. Once you’ve figured out to do these things, you’re pretty much able to change your boat’s oil!
